Tankard Mug

Tankards are a traditional mug that is timeless. Our take on this classic piece of history has the traditionally sloped sides and larger handle. Simple and elegant, perfect for elevating your ipa, ale or large cup of coffee. 

Tankard was originally meant to refer to a wooden drinking vessel similar to a barrel in appearance, however somewhere around the 13th century the term became more general to refer to a drinking vessel that had a similar style and size. Tankards have been made from wood, pewter and ceramic and became a sort of status symbol. A tankard made of pewter or highly decorative ceramic would have been for the more wealthy and they would often have lids to keep insects and foreign matter from your drink. This was also a way to notify the bar person that your drink was empty and you wanted another by leaving the lid open.

Each piece is wheel-thrown and finished by hand in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
